What is a Phobia?

Phobias have elements of anxiety and fear with physiological changes, and it’s the physiological or physical symptoms which phobia sufferers find most distressing.

The physical symptoms are often so traumatic that a person with the phobia will avoid the same or a similar situation. This may then be seen as a “failure” and thus self-esteem is undermined, and any confidence needed for a future challenge is reduced.
